This morning at work, I had "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" stuck in my head. Hymns are so rich with scripture, and I love to meditate on them as they come to mind. My favorite part of today's hymn was when it said:

"Oh, what peace we often forfeit,

Oh, what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry

Everything to God in prayer!"

God is ready to give us His peace that passes all understanding, waiting for us to bring our problems to Him (Philippians 4:6-7). Matthew 11:28-30 is one of my favorite passages of all time:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Too often, I forfeit this peace and carry my needless pain.

I am anxious, and about so many things.

I run to anything but Jesus, I take the world's heavy yoke on myself, and my soul is often unsettled.

But, praise God, whenever I do come to Him, this rest is real! His incomprehensible peace really does guard my heart and mind through Jesus. Do I run back to my heavy burdens? You bet your socks. What a perfect segue to Romans 7:14-25, but that's another blog post.

May you find this rest for your soul.

With love,

Bethany
