Most of what we know about Jesus is from His time here on earth. The gospels tell of the rich teachings of Jesus, His mighty miracles, and His ultimate death and resurrection.
This is what I often forget: When Jesus was here on earth, He was in a humbled state! (Philippians 2:5-11) All of the glory that He showed on earth was just a glimpse of His nature. John had a vision of Jesus on the isle of Patmos and He tries to paint a picture of what he saw.
“And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man... His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead.” Revelation 1:13-17a.
This passage gives me chills. John knew Jesus while he was on earth, but when he saw Jesus in his glorified state, he fell over like a dead man. Can you believe that this Jesus chose to humble Himself and come to earth because He loves us so much? How often do we belittle what He has done for us? We should tremble in awe at the majesty of our Savior.
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.“ Jude 24-25.
