It Matters

Struggling through Algebra, scrubbing dishes, pulling weeds, babysitting toddlers, reading the same book 5,000,000 times to your child... what do you consider "meaningless" in your day? You know, the stuff you do while you're waiting for the "big things" like serving at church, working your dream job, or having a family?

It may seem insignificant, but our "labor is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Cor. 15:58c. If you are living your life as an offering to God, your work is not futile, even if you are cleaning baseboards for 12 hours. Colossians 3:23 says,

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.

We might think we accomplished nothing. It could be that no one gives us credit for our hard work, or that people question our life’s trajectory. Whatever we do, we need to do it enthusiastically, striving to please God, and not men. The Christian life is not about what accolades we get while here on earth, or what others think of us.

Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. Ephesians 6:6.

The rest of 1 Corinthians 15:58 says,

"Therefore my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."

God sees everything, and knows everything, and He is pleased when we work diligently for Him. So next time you’re discouraged that all you do is fold socks or do homework, remember that it matters to God.
