Unchangeable God

I have a love/hate relationship with booking flights online. The options are always in flux; an amazing price today, a terrible price tomorrow. Though I enjoy the thrill of catching a good deal, it usually requires that I hold my tongue just right, wait until Wednesdays at 2 pm (or was it Sunday at 6?), and book not too early and not too late in the year. And I had better book quickly! If I stop to think, the flight's gone, leaving me with no deal.
I may be exaggerating a bit, but can you relate? It can be overwhelming to live in a world subject to 24/7 change. Just one exploration through an abandoned fridge will prove that things don't stay the same indefinitely! Is yogurt supposed to be fuzzy and green? What a smell...
Does the tyranny of constant change ever keep you awake at night? I often fall prey to those worries: I need to ____ before it gets worse, I hope _____ doesn't become a certain way, I hope I don't change in such and such way, etc.
Can I tell you something? There's Someone out there that never changes. He can't change. It's entirely against His nature.
He can't grow worse over time, not even a minuscule amount. He can't get better, because He's already the truest and best form of good there is. Do you know Him?
James 1:17 says that every good and perfect gift comes down from "the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”* The NLT translates it as, "He never changes or casts a shifting shadow." What a powerful metaphor! I can't even keep my shadow still even if I don't move all day, haha.
One of my favorite verses is Hebrews 13:8: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." What a sweet sound that forever is!
Malachi 3:6 says, "For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” I take this for granted, that God's mercies are unchanging!
Be encouraged, friend! Take a moment to meditate on our Lord's unwavering goodness, His steadfast love, and His immutable perfection. Cast "all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7)." The same Rock of Ages can be your hiding place today! Rest in Him!
"25 Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you will remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
27 but you are the same, and your years have no end."
-Psalm 102:25-27 (emphasis mine)
*All scripture quoted is in ESV unless otherwise stated. :)

This is such an encouraging reminder, Bethany!
